Mediating Effects of COVID-19 Risk Perception on the Associations Among eHealth Literacy, COVID-19 Related Anxiety, and COVID-19 Preventive Behaviors in Middle-aged and Older Adults in Seoul : Multigroup Path Analysis Across Age Groups

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the mediating effects of COVID-19 risk perception on the associations among eHealth literacy, COVID-19 related anxiety, and COVID-19 preventive behaviors in middle-aged and older adults and to analyze whether these associations differed between the two age groups. A total of 1,400 middle-aged and older adults were recruited through a 2020 survey and the data were analyzed by using multigroup path analysis method. Findings demonstrated the age group differences in the effects of eHealth literacy and COVID-19 related anxiety on COVID-19 risk perception and COVID-19 preventive behaviors. Also, the mediating effects of COVID-19 risk perception on the associations among eHealth literacy, COVID-19 related anxiety, COVID-19 preventive behaviors were statistically significant for only middle-aged adults. We discussed response measures for enhancing risk perception and preventive behaviors in a national crisis caused by an emerging infectious disease such as COVID-19.
